2/8-2/22 Prayer Points

Opening Prayer: Multiple events over the past couple of weeks reminded us that we may make plans and predict the end result, but God remains sovereign. We remember that God has an ultimate plan for our world and we thank Him that His way is greater than ours. “Father, we know that nothing happens on this earth that you did not know of. You remain in control, regardless of the tragic events we see in the news or the choices our politicians make. Thank you that we can count on you and find our peace within you. Amen.”

  1. Let’s pray for the families of the tragic helicopter crash on January 26th. On Sunday, 1/26, a helicopter crashed in Calabasas, California, killing all 9 people on board, including former NBA player, Kobe Bryant. As we think of the families that were left to deal with the aftermath of this tragedy, we pray for God to be with them for “He heals the brokenhearted” (Psalm 147:3; ESV).
  2.  Let’s pray for Israel. On January 28th, President Trump released a peace plan for the Middle East, which includes Israel and the Palestinian territories. As governments analyze and discuss this plan, let’s follow God’s instructions and “pray for peace in Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6; NLT).
  3. Let’s pray for smooth transitions as the U.K. pulls out of the European Union. The United Kingdom officially left the European Union on January 31st, in what’s been called “Brexit”. This starts the process of negotiating trade agreements with the countries still in the EU and can potentially be a tedious process. We pray for God to give the leaders of these nations wisdom to handle this situation, for we know that “the wise bring calm in the end” (Prov. 29:11; NIV).
  4. Let’s pray for an end to the coronavirus. This disease was first detected in China, but has spread to other countries and was declared a global health emergency on January 30th. We come together as the body of Christ and pray for those suffering from this disease and thank God that “by His wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5; NIV).
  5. Let’s pray for a renewed focus in our federal government. On February 5th, President Trump was acquitted in the Senate and will not be removed from office. With this impeachment trial now concluded, we ask God to renew the focus of our elected officials and remove any peripheral distractions. We thank God that He “is not a God of confusion” and we proclaim that over our officials as they take on new tasks for the good of the American people (1 Cor. 14:33; ESV).
