1/25-2/8 Prayer Points

Opening Prayer: This week America took the time to remember a great leader in Martin Luther King Jr., as well as mourn the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. For these events of historical significance to occur during the same week is no coincidence and so we come to God in recognition of this. “Father God, we come before you today to thank you for the history we have as a country to learn from. We repent for the mistakes our ancestors made and ask that you would enable us to use these events as lessons for our future. Father, we ask that you would guide our leaders as significant events are taking place all around us today. We thank you for the future you have in store for the United States and ask that your will be done in all things. Thank you, God. Amen.

  1. Let’s pray for continued healing and racial reconciliation. Martin Luther King Jr. was remembered on Monday, January 20, across the nation. Let’s come into agreement in prayer with King’s original dream that people are no longer judged by the color of their skin for “there is neither Jew nor Gentile...in Christ Jesus” (Gal 3:28; NIV).
  2. Let’s pray for the end of the bloodshed of the unborn. Wednesday, January 22, was the 47th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which was a Supreme Court decision that legalized a woman’s choice to have an abortion. Because we know that God detests “hands that shed innocent blood”, we pray for a complete and total end to this practice (Prov. 6:16-17; NIV). Even more, we pray for these mothers to be receptive to other options for their unborn children.
    1. Let’s thank God for a president who supports the rights of the unborn. President Trump attended and spoke at the March for Life rally on Friday, January 24. This marks the first time a president has attended this national rally. We praise God and give thanks for leaders that support biblical principles.
  3. Let’s pray for truth to be revealed in the Senate’s impeachment trial. Impeachment proceedings against President Trump started in full force this week. We remember God’s promise that “everything that is concealed will be brought to light” and ask that God would use this highly-publicized trial to illuminate the hidden things in our government (Luke 8:17; NLT).
  4. Let’s pray for worldwide healing of the sick. A coronavirus detected in China spread throughout the country and has led to multiple deaths. The first case in the United States was confirmed this week in Washington. We know that “the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well”, so we lift up these victims and ask for God’s miraculous healing (James 5:15; NIV).
